On Thursday, April 26, 2017, Jada Pinkett Smith hosted over 500 students from the Washington, DC metropolitan area at the second CIE Tour. Comedian Gary Owen engaged the audience with humor while panelists shared insights, anecdotes and advice. Omarion, King Bach, Hannah Beachler, Van Jones and all of the CIE panelists inspired attendees with precious “jewels” of wisdom to help students navigate their careers in entertainment.

Afterwards, students met with leaders from various aspects of the entertainment industry at Discovery Communications. From post-production, photography, marketing and talent representation, to the Grammy Association, craft services, animation and even VR, the interactive experience was phenomenal! By the end of the day, students were literally dancing in the halls to DJ Young Music and Host Tony Redz.

The next stop is Chicago, this October!

CREATORS & CRAFTERS PANEL

Consider this a wake up call: your voice is part of a very important story that needs to be heard. Tomorrow’s films, television shows, commercials, web and mobile content will revolve around the human experiences not yet told – experiences that live inside you right now.

So how do you take your personal experience and turn it into a groundbreaking narrative? How do you take the joy, the pain, the love and the growth, and turn it into something that matters? You create… and in the entertainment industry, creation comes through collaboration.

We’ve selected the industry’s most influential creators and crafters to tell you firsthand what it takes to earn your place, how to get there, and the secrets they wish they’d known along the way. This panel is a sincere discussion of how to be a part of the process, no matter what your title is. From writers, directors and producers to editors, managers, guilds and everyone in between, find out the real story behind creating in the media industry.

Panelists include Adam Rodriguez, Brad Jenkins, Hannah Beachler, King Bach, Omarion, and Ricardo Andrade.

PROMOTERS & PURVEYORS PANEL

Stories only work when people hear them. Promoters and purveyors are the heroes that turn a movie into a blockbuster, or a commercial into a viral success. They’re the hustlers and the movers. They’re the vital connection between entertainment and the public, and the champions who make sure good content doesn’t get overlooked.

It takes a special kind of person to do the job, and regardless where a promoter or purveyor sits on the distribution chain, they have to master “the sell”. Our panel will teach you about the entire ecosystem, from publicists and marketers, to studios, networks and executives. Learn about their dynamic careers and how these driven self-starters made a name for themselves no matter where they came from. You’ll see how an exceptional promoter can rise to the top of the industry and work among Hollywood’s elite.

Panelists include Angie Gates, Daraiha Greene, Lisa Williams-Fauntroy, Payton Iheme, and Robyn Green Arrington.
