MOREHOUSE COLLEGE, ATLANTA, GA, #CIEATL

High school and college students participated in Careers in Entertainment in Atlanta, hosted by The Will & Jada Smith Family Foundation and Morehouse College on Friday, October 20, 2017. Atlanta is the third stop on a multi-city tour that introduces and prepares young people interested in pursuing careers in the entertainment industry.

The event, in partnership with Morehouse College’s Cinema, Television & Emerging Media Studies Program (CTEMS), featured panel discussions and interactive workshops designed to give students an inside look into the multitude of career opportunities within entertainment.

CNN Newsroom Anchor Fredricka Whitfield moderated the keynote panel featuring Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Packer. They discussed their summer hit, “Girls Trip”, and how aspiring entertainers can build on their successes and shape the future of entertainment.

The host, actor and comedian Lil Rel Howery facilitated a panel discussion with GRAMMY award-winning singer, songwriter and entrepreneur Kandi Burruss, actor Brian Tyree Henry, Turner Studios EVP Laura Dames, director and producer Oz Scott, and Conference Director for A3C Ryan Haslam. These industry movers and shapers discussed their pathways to entertainment, sharing insights into how they’ve invented and reinvented themselves to become indispensable in the industry.

Students spent the afternoon in the CIE Interactive Career Experience, where they met with leaders from across the industry, including actress Eva Marcille, producers of the upcoming YouTube Red show “Cobra Kai,” and representatives from Discovery Communications, the GRAMMY U, The Emma Bowen Foundation and Hot 107.9.

CIE Atlanta was made possible by The Office of the Mayor, Morehouse College, The Chick-fil-A Foundation, The Westside Future Fund, Georgia Power, Morgan Stanley, the Philadelphia 76ers and the Campaign for Black Male Achievement.
